ANNUAL GIVING AND EVENTS MANAGER; (100%)
About ILRC The Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC) is a non-profit national resource center that provides legal trainings, technical assistance, educational materials, and policy and media advocacy to advance immigrant rights. Founded in 1979, the mission of the ILRC is to work with and educate immigrants, community organizations, and the legal sector to continue to build a democratic society that values diversity and the rights of all people. The organization has a $1.8 million annual budget.
About the Position The Annual Giving and Events Manager works with the Executive Director, the Board-Staff Development Team, and the full Board of Directors to raise contributed revenue from individuals, law firms, and corporations through strategies that include mail-based appeals, face-to-face solicitation, special events, and donor stewardship and communications.
This is a key position requiring independence, creativity, attention to detail, flexibility, and the experience to lead. The Annual Giving and Events Manager will take a driving role in shaping and implementing a resource development plan that sustains and builds upon current fundraising strategies while exploring and establishing new directions. The position reports to the Executive Director and supervises a special events consultant and other occasional contractors. The ILRC also has a Foundations Liaison Manager whose primary responsibility is to raise money from foundations.
Specific Responsibilities
Annual and Major Giving
- Plan and implement a comprehensive annual giving drive focused mainly on individual donors. This includes managing current mail-based appeals, while developing and testing innovative strategies (for example, using ILRC online technology or product marketing vehicles) to identify and acquire new donors or upgrade existing donors.
- Design and implement a cohesive strategy to identify and develop significant ($500) and major individual ($1,000 and up) donors. This includes planning a formalized major giving effort that identifies, cultivates and solicits donors at this capacity, including ILRC’s Board of Directors.
- Manage and implement donor cultivation strategies that presently include recognition and outreach events (such as receptions, luncheons, house parties). This also includes writing and supervising production of donor communications such as brochures, reply devices, newsletters and annual reports.
- Develop and analyze regular fundraising reports that inform and assess strategy.
- Develop revenue projections and expense budgets in conjunction with the development of the agency's annual budget.
- Manage the donor database to ensure accurate data and reporting. This includes trouble shooting, quality control, running reports, and reconciling development and finance records on a quarterly basis.
Special Events In addition to the donor cultivation events mentioned above, this position will plan and manage ILRC’s annual fundraiser, the Phillip Burton Immigration and Civil Rights Awards, with the support of a special events consultant. This area of responsibility includes:
- Expanding strategies to reach new sponsors from the legal and corporate sectors and beyond.
- Creating and managing an event budget and plan.
- Recruiting high-profile honorees and orchestrating an informative and entertaining speaking program.
- Producing event materials such as a print and electronic invitation, program book with advertisements, signage, etc. (Usually, the event consultant takes responsibility for some, if not all of these activities, particularly logistics like signage, enabling the manager to focus on revenue-generating and program activities.)
Board Development and Relations
- Work with the Executive Director, Assistant Director and Board members, as needed, to facilitate the business of the Board of Directors. This may include board assessment and planning, new member recruitment, and board training and development as well as routine tasks such as preparing meeting agendas and reports to the board and attending/presenting at meetings.
- Instruct, guide and facilitate the Board’s participation in fundraising, including Board participation on the Development Team.
Miscellaneous
- Participate in the ILRC’s team management structure.
- Periodically be available to assist the ILRC’s Manager of Foundation Relations with grant-related fundraising activities.
