Phillip Burton Immigration & Civil Rights Awards

Each year the Immigrant Legal Resource Center proudly honors outstanding individuals for their work on behalf of immigrants. The Phillip Burton Awards allow the ILRC and the community at large to celebrate leaders whose work positively affects our society. Named after Phillip Burton, U.S. Representative from California (1964-1983) the awards recognize those who carry on Congressman Burton’s legacy in support of immigrants and human rights.

The Immigration Advocacy Award is presented for exemplary leadership and commitment through advocacy, education and organizing work on behalf of immigrants and immigrant communities.

The Nancy Pelosi Award for Immigration and Civil Rights Policy is presented in recognition of significant contribution to immigration and/or civil rights policy.

23rd Phillip Burton Immigration & Civil Rights Awards

The evening offers an opportunity to celebrate and recognize three very special guests committed to advancing immigrant rights. The Honorable Nancy Pelosi, Democratic Leader, will join us to present the inaugural Nancy Pelosi Award for Immigration and Civil Rights Policy to our Featured Speaker, the Honorable Dick Durbin, U.S. Senator. We will present the Immigration Advocacy Award to Jose Antonio Vargas, an outspoken journalist and courageous advocate.
