Meenu Batra

After more than a month in detention, Meenu Batra, the only licensed interpreter in Hindi, Urdu, and Punjabi in the state of Texas was released. Batra was detained in Harlingen even though she was granted withholding of removal more than 2 decades ago in 2000. In March of 2026, she was arrested in Harlingen, Texas. She was released in April after a federal judge found her arrest improper because she was given no notice before her actual arrest. She is currently applying for her lawful permanent residence through her youngest child who serves in the U.S. military. While she has been released from custody, her immigration case remains ongoing.
