ILRC Stands with Black Communities and Allies in Demanding Justice
We Are Committed to Working Alongside Black Leaders to Dismantle Racist Institutions

The Immigrant Legal Resource Center stands in solidarity with Black community members and allies across the country who, in response to the devastating murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and so many others at the hands of the police, have come together to protest the system of white supremacy that perpetuates the devaluation of Black lives in this country.

As immigrant rights advocates, we recognize that our fights for justice are inextricably tied, not only because there are millions of Black immigrants who call this country home, but also because the different policing institutions in this country – from local police to border patrol to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) – are branches of the same system, which is deeply rooted in anti-Black racism. The latest reports of Customs and Border Patrol predator drones over protests in Minneapolis only further demonstrate how these different institutions play similar roles in the over-policing and criminalization of Black people.

We recognize our duty to underscore these connections and unite ourselves to the efforts of Black movement leaders and Black-led grassroots organizations across the country. We stand with these leaders in calling for solutions that dismantle racist institutions and direct our local, state, and federal resources towards our communities in a way that ensures that Black community members can live safely and thrive.

Furthermore, we know that unless paired with action, our words of solidarity will ring hollow. Along with loudly joining the cries to protect and value Black lives, we are committed to actualizing these words of solidarity through the work we do every day.
