Immigrant Youth
Publication Date
The ILRC strongly opposes new U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) policy changes that end deferred action for youth approved for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS). These changes eliminate protection from removal and work permits for SIJS recipients, leaving more than 100,000 young people, who have already been found by courts to be abused, abandoned, or neglected, at risk of deportation and labor exploitation. Without these protections, many of these young people will be unable to work lawfully, fund their education, or access essential services, forcing them into dangerous situations.
