On May 2, 2025 the ILRC submitted a letter signed by 115 organizations has opposing a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) proposed rule to expand the information collected on immigration forms. The proposed changes would require applicants to provide social media handles, past phone numbers and emails, and details about family members, all of which is an overly invasive information grab and unrelated to eligibility for the immigration benefits at issue. Requiring this information would make forms much longer and harder to complete, increasing costs, delays, and the risk of mistakes—especially for vulnerable groups like asylum seekers and survivors of domestic violence.
