(Washington)—President Trump once again lied to the American people about the state of the union with his gaslighting rhetoric that his policies-- that are destroying our democracy and enriching Trump and his allies—are making our lives better. The truth is that since the Trump administration began, his policies have sanctioned violent federal enforcement of our communities, put in place racist immigration bans, dismantled legal pathways for immigration relief, eliminated safety nets for vulnerable community members, expanded massive for-profit detention camps, and condemned anyone who has dared to disagree with them.
The American public is waking up and seeing that Trump’s ugly, hateful and racist agenda is tearing apart the lives of millions of people, regardless of status. The Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC) will continue fighting against these egregious policies so advocates and communities, faced with escalating tactics of immigration enforcement, can respond quickly and effectively. The ILRC will continue fighting within the legal framework against these despicable policies.
The ILRC firmly believes public pressure from communities small and large, in blue and red states, will force elected officials to enact policies and laws to repel the mass deportation campaign being waged from the White House.
We are seeing communities speak out against the opening of large warehouses geared toward detaining thousands of people, attend trainings so they can record the injustices of federal enforcement agents lawfully and safely, make sure people know what their rights are and march in peaceful demonstration against Trump’s inhumane policies.
2025 will be remembered as the year the Trump administration tried to manufacture hysteria against immigrants as a smokescreen to put in place policies that enrich themselves and their wealthy backers. The ILRC hopes 2026 will be the year Americans demanded and won an end to these abhorrent policies.
