Trump’s Pick to Lead DHS Will Bring More Enforcement Tactics

(Washington)—The Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC) condemns President Trump’s pick to lead DHS, Senator Markwayne Mullin, a longtime threat to immigrant communities with his staunch support for enforcement tactics and his apathetic stances documented in social media and by journalists toward the suffering of immigrant communities. Mullin co-sponsored the Laken Riley Act, opposes sanctuary laws and will not rein in the escalating violent campaign being waged on immigrant communities nationwide.

Mullin will be Trump’s mouthpiece and enforcer at DHS. His record shows his unwillingness to treat immigrants with dignity and respect. Trump does not choose people for their expertise or credentials. He chooses those who will not question his abhorrent and inhumane mass deportation agenda. Mullin, like Noem, also has no background in national security, immigration enforcement, emergency response, cybersecurity, or anything else that DHS is responsible for.

The American public will see no change in how DHS is run under Mullin. It will still be an agency that prioritizes enforcement and detention over compassion and dignity toward our vibrant and important immigrant communities.
